Profile:
I have been in the
floorcovering trade since 1964, starting my own business JR Roberts in
1977. I joined the NICF -
The National Institute of Carpet and Floorlayers and became a Master
Fitter.
The aim of the
institute is to raise the standards of installations by training and
assessing installers who become members.
I was Vice President
for two years before becoming President of the Institute in 1997
standing down as President in 2003 to dedicate my time to training.
I was made a Fellow
of the N.I.C.F in 2003.
Having set up FITA –
The Flooring Industry Training Association a joint venture by the NICF
and the CFA I was the Chief Training Consultant until May 2008.
I am now an
independent training consultant offering training in most aspects of the
flooring trade.
I am a consultant
for the N.I.C.F and a consultant member of the C.F.A
I organiser and run
the European Team Floorcovering Fitting competition held annually at the
Domotex Floorcovering show in
Qualifications:
N.I.C.F Master Fitter in Carpets, Wood, Laminate, Luxury vinyl
tiles and Resilient floorcoverings.
City & Guilds assessor for
National Vocational
Qualifications levels 1, 2,and 3
in Textile – Wood - Resilient
floorcoverings.
Amtico approved installer.
I act as an expert
witness and independent consultant for manufacturers, wholesalers,
consumers, solicitors and courts.
Working with
manufacturers I write installation instructions, test products and tools
and conduct installation presentations.
I sit on a number of
committee’s for the flooring industry - B.S.I, C.I.T.B co-ordinating
committee for National Vocational Qualifications and C.I.T.B. training
committee.
I sat on a committee
represented by trade manufacturers investigating pile reversal.
